Black Coffee

In Trying to Save Piggy Sneed (1996), John Irving wrote about the events in his life that led him to become a writer. He reflects on the interweaving of truth and fiction as it relates to the writer's art and craft: “Being a writer is a strenuous marriage between careful observation and just as carefully imagining the truths you haven’t had an opportunity to see.”

This spoken word piece is a retelling of my family's story; a recounting of a story of resentment and loss.
